Our Story

Holsen Hus is located at 126 S. Phillips Avenue in historic downtown Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  The store is owned and operated by Shelby Nelson.  Holsen Hus opened for business in October 2002 in the historic Beach-Pay building.  At one point the building served as the meeting place for the Sons of Norway lodge.  It seems as if Holsen Hus was destined to find its home in the building.

Shelby's great-grandfather, Rasmus Rognaldson Holsen, immigrated to America along with his four brothers.  They arrived in the early 1900's from Holsen, Norway and settled in Moorhead, Minnesota.  Shelby also had a great-grandfather from Karlshamn, Sweden, a great-grandmother from Jaren, Norway, and a great-great-grandfather from Denmark.

Holsen Hus strives to import it's merchandise from the Scandinavian countries of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland.  In addition, we carry merchandise that is inspired by Scandinavian design.
